KANHANGAD: A native of Wayanad living in a rented house in Kanhangad died after consuming poison. Her husband has been admitted at Kannur Govt Medical College Hospital in Pariyaram. The dead is Rema (44) of Panamaram in Wayanad. Her husband Jayaprakash Narayanan (45) is in a critical condition.

Jayaprakash called 108 ambulance from his house at Kovval AKG club near Kanhangad railway station at 5 pm on Monday evening. He said that he and his wife had consumed poisoned and sought help. Rema died on way to the hospital. Jayaprakash who was admitted to the district hospital was later shifted to Kannur Govt Medical College.

Jayaprakash told the doctor of district hospital that his wife gave him a white powder. He said that he ate it and after sometime, started vomiting and felt uneasy. When he asked his wife what he gave her, she said that it was poison and that she had already consumed it. An ambulance was called immediately. Hosdurg inspector K P Shine said that he has not believed his statement and things would be clarified only in further investigation. The couple had been living here in a rented house for seven years. Jayaprakash works in a hotel in Kanhangad.
