IDUKKI: A father and son duo, both CPM workers, were attacked by a group of assailants at Santhanpara in Idukki. Koonthapanatheri native Paramasivan and his son Kumar suffered injuries in the attack. They have been admitted to Nedunkandam Taluk Hospital.
The incident took place on Monday night. According to sources, the assailants barged into the house and attacked Paramasivan and Kumar. The CPM is alleging that the attack was carried out by Congress workers.
The assailants have been identified as Vimal and Aravind. The neighbour, who tried to stop the assailants, was also injured. The accused, who suffered injuries during the crime, are now under police surveillance. The CPM leadership alleged that the dispute related to the panchayat elections in the place led to the violence and that the Congress workers had tried to create a riot by hacking the CPM workers.
However, the Congress responded that the accused Vimal has no connection with the party and that the CPM was trying to politically exploit the situation. The police claim that personal enmity led to the attack.
