NEW DELHI: The British court has ordered to sent back businessman Nirav Modi to India. Nirav Modi was involved in Rs 10,000 crore loan fraud case. The British court rejected Nirav's plea against his extradition to India. The court ruled in favour of extradition. Nirav Modi, who is in jail in London, may be extradited to India soon. Modi is the main accused in Rs 13,000 crore Punjab National Bank loan scam. He left India when news about the fraud came out and various agencies started investigation. He was arrested in March 2019 in London.
Hearing the petition, the court said that India is a friendly foreign nation and that the UK will abide by its obligations under extradition rules. Nirav Modi's lawyer argued that he is depressed and suicidal and it will get worse when he moves there due to the unfavorable situation in India. The petition states that the Indian politicians have worsened the situation and the Indian media is being cruel against him. He stated this with an example of the public burning his effigy. But the Indian government had assured that Nirav Modi would be given adequate medical care in Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai. The British court said that the assurance should not be doubted.
