KOCHI: The Kerala High Court will consider today the plea of former councillor G S Sreekumar of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation seeking an investigation into the letter controversy. The plea asserted that the issue of giving a letter to CPM district secretary is serious and either a judicial inquiry or a CBI probe is required. The petitioner also alleged that more than a thousand illegal appointments have been made in the corporation during the last two years. The plea said the mayor sending a letter to the district secretary demanding people is a partial one and is a violation of oath.
The controversies started as soon as her letter to CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan demanding a priority list for contract appointments surfaced. The letter in mayor’s official letter pad requested that the list be given for the appointment after specifying the number of vacant jobs. Soon after this, a letter sent by parliamentary party leader D R Anil to the district secretary also came out, requesting that employees be appointed to the rest centre in the premises of SAT hospital.
The mayor asserted that she had not given any letter in connection with the appointments and district secretary Anavoor Nagappan repeatedly clarified that he has not received any such letter. The crime branch is investigating the matter. The investigating team had recorded the mayor’s statement.
