KOCHI: Kerala High Court has issued a notice to Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran in a plea seeking judicial inquiry into the letter controversy. The HC said it will take a decision on the petition after hearing what the mayor had to say. The petition was filed by former municipal councillor GS Sreekumar. The petition will be heard again on November 25.

The petition alleges that Arya Rajendran violated oath and showed favouritism. GS Sreekumar also demanded an inquiry into LDF Parliamentary Party Secretary DR Anil's letter. The petitioner also alleged that illegal appointments were made in the corporation.

Besides the mayor, the court has issued notices to councillor DR Anil and the government. Although the government was opposed to sending a notice to the mayor, the court directed that the mayor be heard.

At the same time, protests are still going on in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation demanding the mayor's resignation. Youth Congress workers barged into the mayor's office. The controversy started after a letter said to be that of the mayor sent to CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan asking for a list of contract appointments in the corporation came out.
