PALAKKAD: The magisterial report submitted in the court in connection with the Madhu murder case has come out. The report prepared by the Ottapalam sub-collector stated that Madhu was killed due to a brutal attack by the mob. The magisterial inquiry was announced to determine whether Madhu died due to custodial torture. As part of the investigation, the statements of the police officers, who took Madhu into custody from the spot, and witnesses were recorded. The investigation found that there was no other reason for Madhu's death other than a mob attack. The four-page inquiry report mainly stated that Madhu was subjected to a vicious mob attack.

Three investigations were carried out in the Madhu murder case, including a police investigation and two magisterial investigations. While one magisterial investigation was completed by Geromic George, the then sub-collector of Ottapalam, the other was carried out by N. Rameshan, the first-class judicial magistrate of Mannarkkad. Both these investigation reports were not in the case file. The investigation officer and the prosecution both did not give serious importance to these reports. Therefore both the Magisterial investigation reports did not find a place in the case file. It was Geromic George who completed Madhu's inquest proceedings. He is the 96th witness in the case. It was during his cross-examination that he mentioned the magisterial investigation. Both the Magisterial investigations were conducted to ascertain if Madhu had died in police custody.
