THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has been removed from the post of Chancellor of Kerala Kalamandalam deemed-to-be-university. The Department of Culture has issued an order removing the Governor from the post of Chancellor. Kerala Kalamandalam works under the Department of Culture. The order states that instead of the Governor, eminent persons from the field of art and culture can be appointed as Chancellor.

As per the Rules and Regulations of Kalamandalam deemed-to-be-university, the power to appoint the Chancellor is vested in the state government. Using this authority, the Department of Culture issued the order removing the Governor from the post of Chancellor.

The Governor was appointed as chancellor of Kalamandalam University in 2015 through an executive order of the state government. The Department of Culture amended this to remove the Governor from the post of Chancellor. The Pro-Chancellor will hold the charge of the Chancellor until the new Chancellor takes charge
