THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ordinance to remove Governor Arif Mohammed Khan from the post of chancellor of universities in the state will be sent to the Raj Bhavan today. The chief secretary will hand over the ordinance to the Raj Bhavan. The government has decided to approach the court if the governor does not sign the ordinance.
The government's observation is that there is no reason to refer it to the president. The legal advice obtained is that even if it is sent to the President, the bill can be brought in the assembly. The cabinet meeting approved the draft of the ordinance last Wednesday.
The ordinance will come into effect only after the consent of the Governor. The Governor had earlier clarified that the ordinance stripping him of the role of chancellor would not be considered and would send for the President's opinion.
