THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister MB Rajesh on Friday said that the state government will introduce a new rule to solve the issue of indefinite delay in the wage payment of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) workers. The government will bring norms so that the workers will get compensation in accordance with the loss of wages. If the workers do not receive wages within 15 days of completion of work, 0.05% of the arrears of wages will be provided to the workers every day from the 16th day. Similarly, if the dues are not cleared within the next fifteen days, the workers will be paid an additional 0.05 percent of the compensation daily.

The compensation will be paid from the State Employment Guarantee Fund. This amount will be deducted from the salaries of the officers responsible for the delay in the payment of wages. Minister MB Rajesh said that the decision was taken as part of the government's interventions to ensure timely and accurate wages to Employment Guarantee Scheme workers.
