THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government is actively considering the possibility of postponing the policy announcement speech with the Governor. There is a plan to extend the December meeting to January. A policy address can be avoided for the time being by extending the assembly session indefinitely.
The Assembly will temporarily dismiss on December 15, resume after Christmas, and extend it to January. Even then, the next assembly session will have to start with the governor's policy announcement speech. In 1990, the same strategy was used to get rid of Governor Ram Dulari Sinha, who fell out with Nayanar government. The Assembly started on December 17, 1989, and continued till January 2, 1990.
The government is yet to send the ordinance to the Raj Bhavan to remove the governor from the post of chancellor of all 14 universities. The cabinet meeting held on Wednesday decided to issue the ordinance. The government explains that the concerned ministers haven't signed. The government is worried about what the governor will do if he gets the ordinance. Amid the uncertainty, the Governor will leave for Delhi today. The move is to take further action after consulting experts.
