KOCHI: Former player Iain Hume, who scored the first goal for the Kerala Blasters, has decided to hang up his boots. Hume, who is regarded as a legend among Malayali football lovers after scoring 10 goals in a total of 29 matches for the Kerala Blasters, has announced his retirement from professional football. Iain Hume, who was known by the nickname Humettan among the Malayalis, has been absent from football matches for the past two and a half years. The 39-year-old former Canadian international made the official retirement announcement while currently coaching English club Woodstock Town FC.

Hume was instrumental in helping Kerala Blasters reach the finals in the inaugural ISL season of 2014. Hume, who had also played for Kolkata and Pune teams in the ISL, scored more than 140 goals in more than 600 matches.

Iain Hume made his international debut for Canada in 2003. He represented the national team three times in World Cup qualifiers. He scored six goals in 43 appearances between 2003 and 2016.

Hume made 43 international “A” appearances for Canada across 14 years from 2003 to 2016, including three appearances for Canada during the fabled run at the 2007 Concacaf Gold Cup.
