WAYANAD: An ASI was suspended for allegedly assaulting the victim of a POCSO case. Ambalavayal Grade ASI TG Babu was suspended pending investigation. The sub-inspector and CPO, who were in the police team, will also face an investigation. It was Kannur DIG Rahul R Nair who took the action on the complaint of the sixteen-year-old girl.

The incident took place on October 26 when Ambalavayal police took the survivor to Ooty for collecting evidence. The ASI allegedly assaulted her while returning after completing the evidence collection. In her complaint, the girl alleged that Grade ASI TG Babu moved her aside and grabbed her hand. She also alleged that he took pictures of her on his mobile phone. The girl disclosed this during counselling at the shelter home. Following this, the CWC gave a report to the district police chief. The ASI was suspended based on this report. There will also be a departmental inquiry against SI Sobin and CPO Prajisha.

Ambalavayal police have registered a case under the POCSO Act. Reports are claiming that there was a serious lapse on the part of the officials in connection with the incident. The district special branch DySP has been tasked to conduct a departmental inquiry into the incident and submit a report.
