THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM will not be immediately conducting a party-level investigation regarding the controversy over the letter issued in the name of the Thiruvananthapuram mayor seeking a list from the district secretary for temporary appointments in the Corporation. The party is of the view that it can further step according to the progress of the ongoing crime branch investigation. After the crime branch investigation gets over, the party will investigate the factionalism that led to the controversy and take action. The party concluded that the letter was leaked to the media was part of the party's infighting. It may take disciplinary action against some people later.

Party sources have indicated that there is no possibility of any serious discussion regarding the corporation controversy in the CPM district committee meeting which will be held today in the presence of state secretary MV Govindan. The matter is not included in the agenda. At the same time, the party will take defensive measures against the backdrop of ongoing protests by the Congress and the BJP in the corporation. It will use various means, including social media, for this purpose.

Today's meeting will mainly focus on the reporting of past state committee decisions. The cultural policy document, strengthening of the party mouthpiece etc. are on the agenda. The meeting will also discuss the preparations for the Raj Bhavan march on November 15.

No new secretary anytime soon?
The party is not likely to elect a new district secretary immediately. If Anavoor Nagappan is replaced now, opposition parties will interpret it as a decision taken in the wake of the letter row. The All India Conference of Mahila Association will be held in Thiruvananthapuram in January. It is indicated that the new district secretary will be appointed only after that. Varkala MLA V Joy is the frontrunner to become the new district secretary. Some are also suggesting the name of senior leader M Vijayakumar.
