THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dairy Development Minister J Chinchu Rani on Monday announced that milk prices would increase in the state. The minister told a private channel that she will consult Milma before deciding how many rupees to increase.

Milma will give a recommendation tomorrow to the government to hike milk prices. It is recommending a hike of Rs 8.57 per liter. Milma's demand is to implement the price hike by November 21.

The assessment of the committee is that only if the price is increased from 7 to 8 rupees per litre, the farmer will get at least 6 rupees after commission and other expenses.

Currently, Kerala has the highest milk prices in the nation. A further hike in prices will be a huge blow to the people who are suffering from price hikes.
