KOCHI: Police may record the arrest of CI PR Sunu in the Thrikakkara gang rape today. They have issued a notice to Sunu asking him to appear at 10 am today. According to the investigation team, the arrest was getting delayed due to contradictions in the statements of the complainant and lack of clear evidence. Only Sunu is in police custody now. Other accused such as Thrikakkara temple employee Abhilash and housemaid Vijayalakshmi were released after questioning.

The notice was issued after the probe team explained that it was continuing its investigation to gather more evidence in the case. Although Sunu is in police custody, the notice was issued as part of the process. The explanation given by the police is that they did not make an arrest because they did not get clear evidence or circumstantial evidence. The police issued the notice to Sunu when it was hinted that the complainant would submit a petition to the Chief Minister alleging that the investigation was ineffective.

The four persons named in the complaint and the housemaid, who is said to have conspired, have denied the allegations. In the event that the complaint and the statements do not match, the police are planning to produce the complainant before the magistrate and record her confidential statement. The complaint has not specified the date and time of the rape. Yesterday evening, the police asked five questions to the woman. These questions were prepared by the investigating officers, including City Police Commissioner CH Nagaraju. However, there was no clarity on the date of the incident.

The accused, who denied the allegations, said in their statement that they only have acquaintance with the complainant. The other two accused are yet to be found.

Commissioner CH Nagaraju said that Sunu was taken into custody to prevent him from escaping. "Arrests were not made due to a lack of clear evidence. Sunu's background is not good. The interrogation is ongoing. We will also check if more people are involved. If the evidence is clear, the arrest will not be delayed," he said.
