KOCHI: The High court has raised questions regarding Priya Varghese’s appointment. In a detailed argument in the petition challenging Priya's appointment, the court observed that the appointment of associate professor was not child's play and asked whether Priya Varghese's qualification was examined. The court said that there was no clarity in the Kannur University registrar's action which examined Priya's teaching experience. "This will affect the future of many students. Associate Professor post should be handled by those with teaching experience. On what basis was such an unqualified person appointed there?”, asked the court.
The court pointed out the errors made by the university in a petition filed by Joseph Zachariah, who was ranked second in the Kannur university associate professor rank list. Joseph Zachariah had stated in the petition that Priya has only five years of teaching experience. The teaching experience after receiving doctorate should be considered. The UGC had earlier told the court that Priya Varghese was not qualified enough to be an associate professor. But the affidavit given by Priya and Kannur University states that she has teaching experience.
