THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the Congress and the UDF becoming increasingly worried that the controversial statements of KPCC president K Sudhakaran would affect the unity of the front, opposition leader VD Satheesan came out rejecting Sudhakaran's statement. The Congress high command also intervened in the matter. It must be noted that Sudhakaran's statement was unacceptable to the Muslim League, the main ally of the UDF.
Sensing the danger, Sudhakaran attacked BJP and CPM and clarified his position. However, the controversy has not subsided. Meanwhile, the supporters of Sudhakaran are alleging that some leaders in the party are using the controversy as a weapon to prevent Sudhakaran from becoming the president again in the Congress reorganization.
BJP state president K Surendran's statement that Sudhakaran has an RSS mind added heat to the controversy. When the opposition leader stated that Sudhakaran's speech should be seriously examined, former KPCC president K Muraeeidharan responded by saying that the controversy will not end with Sudhakaran expressing regret. The complaint that Sudhakaran is causing controversy unnecessarily and inappropriately is also strong in the Muslim League. They believe that Sudhakaran's statements will upset the religious minorities as the country is heading towards crucial general elections.
After the Congress MPs complained to the high command, AICC leaders KC Venugopal and Tariq Anwar called Sudhakaran on the phone and sought an explanation. It is reported the High Command has understood Sudhakaran's explanation that he did not speak ill of Nehru. Sudhakaran gave AICC leaders the details of the speech, its context and its detailed video. The high command assessed that the phrase "Nehru made peace with communal fascism" caused controversy.
It is certain that there will be severe criticism against Sudhakaran in the KPCC political affairs committee meeting in Kochi tomorrow to discuss the agitation against the government.
Sudhakaran contacts League leadership
Sudhakaran has initiated efforts trying to persuade the League leadership. He contacted Kunhalikutty, explained the matter and said that the league leadership misunderstood his statement. Although Kunhalikutty said that he does not have any dissatisfaction with Sudhakaran, Sudhakaran is likely to be criticized in the League meeting to be held in Panakkad today.
