KOCHI: Although three more people were named accused in the Thrikakkara gang rape case, the police are playing tricks without arresting anyone, including CI Sunu. The complainant's confidential statement was recorded before the Magistrate. However, the police are saying that they did not get enough evidence to arrest the accused.
Seven persons were initially named accused as per the woman's complaint. The complainant gave the information of five of them. She did not know the names and details of the other two. Three more persons were added to the list of accused as per the statement given by the complainant on Monday. The woman does not know their names and details either. The police are trying to identify the accused.
The first accused is Vijayalakshmi, the complainant's housemaid. Thrikkakara native Rajeev is the second accused. CI Sunu is the third accused, while Devaswom employee Abhilash and Kadavanthra native Sashi are the fourth and fifth accused respectively. Five more accused are yet to be identified. The complainant stated that the accused raped her on different days till the end of August.
Coastal Police CI PR Sunu, who was taken into custody and later released, appeared at the office of Assistant Commissioner PB Baby in Kakkanad yesterday at 10 am. There was no serious questioning. Sunu has been asked to appear again today for questioning. Deputy Police Commissioner S Sasidharan said that Sunu cannot be arrested without a detailed investigation.
