KANNUR: Kannur University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gopinath Ravindran said in a press conference that the further action will be taken by accepting the High court verdict on Priya Varghese’s appointment. He added that they will not appeal against the verdict.

“Clarification was sought earlier from the UGC regarding Priya's eligibility, but no reply was received. None of these problems would have occurred if the reply had been received on time. The university went ahead by doing all the procedures suggested by the UGC. More clarity will come after getting the judgment copy. The court directed to re-examine all the applications for the Associate Professor post. The eligibility of the three shortlisted candidates will be re-examined and the rank list will be rearranged.

The court pointed out that the deputation period cannot be considered as teaching experience. This is a matter that affects many teachers in all universities. This ruling will apply to all those who are going to do research on deputation. This will be a setback for many teachers when they apply for the post of principal as per the new UGC guidelines.

The university has sought more documents from Priya. Will re-check them as soon as they are received. There will be no more interviews. If Priya Varghese is found to be ineligible, the second ranker will naturally be considered.”, said VC.
