THALASSERY: The court on Saturday granted bail to a man who brutally by kicking a six-year-old boy who was leaning on his car parked on the roadside in Thalassery. Mohammad Shihshad (20), the owner of the car, was granted bail by Thalassery First Class Magistrate Court. He was in jail for 16 days. The crime branch filed the charge sheet in the court yesterday.

The shocking incident took place near Thalassery Manavatti junction on Thursday November 3 at 8 pm. The child was leaning on a car parked in the curve of a road in a no parking zone. Shihshad came down from the driving seat and kicked the child. The heart-wrenching sight of the child standing in shock was widely circulated on social media. The video also shows a group of people questioning the man after seeing the incident. The accused's justification to those who questioned the violence was that the child tried to harm the people in the car. When the footage came out, it was proved to be a hoax. Former Chairman of Kannur University Union Adv. M.K. Hassan took the child to the hospital.

After receiving the information about the violence, the police took the car into custody and but released the accused who came to the station at night. As the incident became controversial, the police registered a case under sections 323, 308 and 283 of the IPC. The National Child Rights Commission sought an explanation from the Kannur district collector and the police commissioner. The State Child Rights Commission also got involved in the incident.

The victim is the son of Nituram-Matra, a couple from Rajasthan who sell balloons in Thalassery city. The child's parents were also present near the place where the atrocity took place.
