KOZHIKODE: The DCC came to the fore with an explanation on the news of an undeclared ban by congress on Shashi Tharoor’s Malabar tour.

‘Tharoor had not informed about the tour in Kozhikode. M K Raghavan MP informed the district committee. There was news that Tharoor's tour was part of a factionalism activity. So instructed the Youth Congress to withdraw from the programme. Some Congress leaders also expressed concern over this. If Tharoor had informed the DCC earlier would have done everything,’ said DCC president Praveen Kumar.

Youth Congress district president R Shaheen had stated that Tharoor's tour was not prepared according to the organizational system of the Congress. Shaheen also stated that he withdrew from it after consulting the DCC.

Meantime, KPCC chief K Sudhakaran said the campaign of banning congress leader Shashi Tharoor from the event is totally baseless. The organisers withdrew from the talk on ‘Sangh Parivar and challenges to secularism’ organised by the youth congress district committee at the last minute. It is alleged that it was due to the pressure from top leaders of the congress party. The criticism is that it was a move against Tharoor.

However, in a Facebook post Sudhakaran said that it is an undisputed thing that Tharoor is a noble leader of the Indian National Congress and that the KPCC leadership is ready to arrange political programmes for him anywhere in Kerala.
