THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The allegation that efforts are going on to erase the issue of the controversial letter of the Mayor is gaining ground. The opposition is saying that the government’s reluctance to register a case and conduct investigation is proof that the government is trying to erase the case.
The Crime Branch conducted its preliminary investigation without registering a case. The authorities are saying that because the DGP and Crime ADGP are out of station, the investigation is being delayed. The Crime Branch said that the letter is fake. However, they have not found the source of the letter or its original. A CPI(M) Area Committee member had sent the letter to the Local Committee Secretary under it. The letter got leaked when the Local Secretary posted the letter in his WhatsApp group. However, these are not mentioned in the report.
Currently, only statements are there in the Crime Branch report. There is no mention that the investigation has uncovered any evidences. There are no suspects either. There is also no mention about two persons that party members suspect.
The confusion of who would conduct the follow up investigation is also continuing. Earlier it was decided that the local police will investigate. But that decision was later abandoned because it might create more controversy when local police investigate a case that was already probed by the Crime Branch.
There is a possibility to give it to the Cyber Cell or to the Crime Branch team itself. If it is given to the Cyber Cell, the source of the letter and from where it spread can be found out. The Crime Branch can also investigate the case with the help of technology after registering a FIR. The Cyber Cell can complete the investigation in less time. While Crime Branch will take more time to investigate.
It is believed that the government and the communist party is trying to calm the protests down by delaying the investigation.
