KOCHI: Udumbanchola native Tijo Thomas (34), who was arrested in the case of trying to stop the car of Kerala High Court Chief Justice S Manikumar, was produced in the court and remanded. Police have registered cases, including attempts to murder, against him.

The incident took place on Sunday night. Tijo, a regular troublemaker, stopped the Chief Justice's Pilot vehicle and followed him dangerously till his official residence. The police took him into custody from Vytila later that night. Tijo behaves violently when he is drunk. There are several cases against him in the Udumbanchola police station.

The Udumbanchola police had charged him with drunken driving twice. Tijo had been a container driver for many years. He was doing cardamom cultivation in his place for some time. On Saturday, he came back to work at the transporting company in Vallarpadam. He was living near the old police station in Ponnarimangalam. He said that he does not remember anything he did under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and produced in court yesterday.

Tijo was irked when the Chief Justice's car overtook his vehicle at Cheranalloor on Sunday night. According to the complaint of Reserve Sub-Inspector Antony Perera of Kochi City AR Camp, who is on the pilot duty of the Chief Justice, Tijo overtook the car and the pilot vehicle at high speed on the Moolampilly side and created obstructions. He followed the judge till his official residence on KT Koshi Road behind Maharajas College. Although the police tried to nab Tijo after Justice's car entered the house, he escaped. Later, the police followed him and took him into custody.
