NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has directed the Centre and the Reserve Bank to produce the documents related to the 2016 demonetisation. The Supreme Court's directive came while considering 58 petitions filed in the Supreme Court against the demonetisation announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8, 2016. The new action comes while the Supreme Court has delayed announcing its decision on the petition against the central government. The apex court has directed that the documents should be produced by December 10.

A five-member constitution bench headed by Justice SA Nazeer considered the petitions. The Supreme Court sought the documents from the Centre after hearing the arguments of Attorney General R Venkataraman, who appeared for the RBI, and senior advocates P Chidambaram and Shyam Divan, who appeared for the petitioners. The court also stated that the verdict has been postponed until the documents are examined.
