KOLLAM: A bride and a groom fell into a quarry pond while taking selfie on the previous day of their marriage. The two were rescued jointly by the locals, fire force and the police.

The incident happened on Thursday at the Kattupuram Ayiravilli quarry pond in Kalluvathukkal. Vinu V Krishnan, son of Radhakrishnan and Sheela of Paravoor and Sandra S Kumar, daughter of late Sreekumar and Saritha of Kalluvathukal were the two who met with the accident. Their marriage was scheduled for today at the Paripally Pamburam Mahavishnu Temple.

When the marriage preparations were in the final stages at the bride’s house, the groom reached the pond with Sandra. While taking a selfie, Sandra slipped and fell into the pond. Although Vinu jumped immediately, he could not save her. The locals, the police led by Paripally SHO Al Jabbar and fire force from Navaikulam rescued them and brought them to the shore. The two were then admitted at the Paripally Medical College Hospital.

Hospital authorities advised three months complete rest for Sandra who sustained injuries on her spine and legs. A decision has been taken to conduct the marriage after that.
