THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The opposition moved an adjournment motion for a discussion on drug mafias in the state. The opposition demanded an adjournment debate raising the Malayinkeezhu incident and for making an eighth standard a drug carrier in Azhiyur. Mathew Kuzhalnadan MLA moved the notice for the debate.

Local Self-Government Minister M B Rajesh while replying said the things levelled in the notice are serious. However, the minister alleged that efforts are being made to create an impression that the use of drugs in the state is high. The minister also informed the assembly that Kerala is not among the top five states in India for the use of drugs. The minister informed that it has been found that drugs are being sold in the premises of 263 schools in the state and that the drug mafia will be suppressed in the state. The minister replied that severe action will be taken.

Following the minister's reply, the Speaker denied permission for the motion. In his walk out speech, opposition leader V D Satheesan mentioned the Meppadi incident and soon a verbal dispute broke out between the members of the ruling and opposition in the house.

When Satheesan said the accused who attacked the SFI leader in Meppadi had destroyed the MSF flagpole months ago and the principal had taken disciplinary action against the SFI leader for using drugs, a big uproar was witnessed in the assembly. Satheesan said the dispute between the SFI workers and those who were formerly in the party led to the attack.
