NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has ordered the central government and the National Medical Commission (NMC) to constitute an expert committee to solve the issue of medical students, who studied in foreign countries but could not complete their clinical training. They could not complete their clinical training because of Covid and Ukrainian war. The SC gave the order after considering the plea submitted by a group of students.

The court pointed out that the students got certificates by completing the course online and received certificates but could not complete their clinical training. They cannot go back to their universities for this. The central government and the NMC argued that as they were not final year students, concessions cannot be given.

However, the court said that this issue must be examined again as the students have completed their course through online.

Around 500 students’ life are at stake here. They have completed seven semesters directly, and three semesters online. All the petitioners have passed the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination. If the plight of these students are ignored then their families will be in trouble. The bench suggested that the Home, Health, and External Affairs Department discuss with NMC and come up with a solution.

The plea will be heard on 25th January, 2023.
