THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kannur University Vice Chancellor, Gopinath Ravindran, emailed the Governor, saying that he will not attend the hearing conducted by the Governor on 12th, ahead of ousting the eight VCs, who were appointed in violation of the UGC guidelines. He also demanded the documents of his reappointment.
The VC asked for the notification of the formation of Search Committee and the process behind it. Only after studying this can the lawyer attend. The Governor must be an opportunity for this after January 3rd.
Gopinath Ravindran said that he was appointed as VC when Supreme Court former Chief Justice, P Sadasivam, was Governor of Kerala. Can he make an error in this regard, asked the VC. He said that all rules were followed in his appointment. However, the Raj Bhavan replied that the documents of the reappointment cannot be given.
In the hearing, to be held at the Raj Bhavan, every VC will be allotted half-an-hour. The first chance is for Kerala University former VC, Dr. VP Mahadevan Pillai. The hearing schedule is from Thiruvananthapuram to North.
The Governor accepted Sanskrit University VC, MV Narayanan’s request to make the hearing online as he had to attend a meeting at CUSAT. Virtual hearing will be conducted in the afternoon for him.
As MG University VC is travelling to Russia, his hearing will be in January.
The VCs of MG, Calicut, CUSAT, Sanskrit, Kannur, Malayalam, Open, and Digital Universities are in a fix. The Kerala University retired VC, VP Mahadevan Pillai, is included in the notice given Governor. The VC of Fisheries University has been already thrown out by the HC.
The Governor’s position is that if the recommendation appointment is wrong then every VC appointment will be annulled. The Governor’s move is to dismiss them after the hearing.
