THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Cooperative Societies (Third Amendment) Bill, 2022, has been tabled at the legislative assembly. It stipulates that differently abled people will have 4% reservation in the cooperative sector. Other clauses in the bill include making the appointments to the cooperative society completely under the Cooperative Society Exam Board, and also fixing the tenure of those who are elected to the executive committee.

The pension disbursement will be through Cooperative Pension Board. More clarity will be brought into the workings of the union in cooperative section. Liquidation activities will be done easily.

Minister VN Vasavan said that the workings of cooperative sector will be made more transparent and flawless. After discussion the bill is sent for the deliberations of the select committee. The bill stipulates that if there are complaints against the workings of the cooperative society, the executive committee can be suspended.

Also, a member getting to administration position twice will be stopped. Also, subsidiary institutions doing business using surplus funds will be controlled. The clauses will be made more strong so that funds will be collected from those individuals, who bring loss to the institution and those who misappropriate money. Inspection will be done very strictly in every society.
