THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The seventh session of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly yesterday adjourned sine die after passing the University Amendment Bills removing the Governor from the post of Chancellor.
If today's cabinet meeting decides to inform the Governor that the session has been adjourned, then a new session will have to be convened. If the new session takes place in the new year, the Governor's policy address will also be required. If the cabinet decides not to adjourn the session, the Assembly may convene without the permission of the Governor as a continuation of the session just ended.
The Speaker can convene the Assembly at any time by giving 12 days' notice to the members. In that case, the governor's policy address can be avoided in the session held in the new year. Today's cabinet meeting is crucial in the context of the government's ongoing battle with the Governor.
