KOCHI: District Collector of Pathanamthitta has submitted a report to the High Court by including the decisions of the meeting held at the government level yesterday to control the rush at Sabarimala. The Collector submitted proposals such as limiting the number of bookings through the virtual queue system to 90,000 per day and the increase of darshan timings to 19 hours.
The district police chief had also submitted some proposals in the court to control the crowd at Sabarimala. The police have given proposals such as restricting the vehicles of pilgrims in nearby places like Erumely, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam with the permission of the District Collectors. The High Court sought the views of the Travancore Devaswom Board, Amicus Curiae and Sabarimala Special Commissioner on these proposals. The court will hear the petitions again today. The petition is being heard by a division bench comprising Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice PG Ajitkumar.
KSRTC informed that scheduled services from various places are continuing to Pathanamthitta and none of these have been converted into special services due to the Mandala-Makaravilakku season. This was clarified in a petition being considered by the Devaswom Bench following complaints that KSRTC was charging excessive fares from pilgrims. The KSRTC also submitted a list of scheduled services in the court. The division bench directed the KSRTC to file a detailed affidavit in this regard today. The plea will be heard again on Friday.
