THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A decision will be taken today on the return of Saji Cheriyan, who had to resign his ministerial berth due to the controversy over his criticism on the constitution. The issue is likely to be discussed in the CPM state secretariat meet to be convened today. The meeting scheduled to be held on Friday was postponed to today as the Kisan Sabha All India Conference is being held in Thrissur. The way for Saji Cheriyan to return to the cabinet is being made as he has been acquitted in all cases.

The high court had rejected the plea seeking disqualification of Saji Cheriyan for his speech insulting the constitution. A division bench comprising Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chali dismissed the plea filed by Malappuram native Biju P Cheruman and BSP state president Vayalar Rajeevan.

State secretary MV Govindan also stated that a decision will be taken soon to bring Saji Cheriyan back to the cabinet. Saji Cheriyan's response after the court verdict was that his party will decide his future. He told media that he was happy on the high court’s verdict.

A new minister was not appointed to replace Saji Cheriyan and the portfolios handled by Saji Cheriyan were shared amongst the ministers. The CPM had taken the stand that he could continue as MLA. There were speculations earlier that Saji Cheriyan would return to the cabinet if the case was withdrawn.
