THRISSUR: Seena, who has been confined to her wheelchair since the age of one and a half, has not surrendered to the limitations and has reached the position of the headmistress of the Vocational Higher Secondary School. She has the fighting spirit of athletes. She aims to elevate the school to the world of sports.
Seena was confined to the wheelchair as the mobility of her legs was reduced due to muscular dystrophy. She became a teacher in 1995. Six years ago, she became the headmistress at Ramavarampuram Vocational Higher Secondary School. On the day before joining the school, she fell on the ground and suffered a knee fracture. As it became difficult for her to sit in a wheelchair, she parked her own car in the school compound and worked by sitting in its trunk for a month and a half.
Daughter of Chittatukara Aloor native Chakunni - Lilly couple, Seena is married to Kottekkad native Jacob. The couple has a son named Sebastian. She has received the Government Award for the Best Differently Abled Officer of the Year and the Karma Shrestha Award 2019 for Best Teacher.
Sports school of Rs 40 crore
After taking charge as the headmistress, Seena increased the area of the school from three acres to six acres by adding the nearby wasteland. A ground was then prepared on three acres. Sai authorities decided to make this place a sports school. Sai authorities withdrew when the then agriculture minister VS Sunilkumar announced Rs 3 crore to bring the school up to international standards. Seena then submitted a Rs 40 crore project to the government with the demand that the education department should turn it into a sports school.
