THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Governor will direct the KTU Vice Chancellor to appoint temporary employees from PSC's university assistant rank list or Employment Exchange, excluding the appointments made by the syndicate members. When a similar irregularity took place in the Calicut unversity, the High Court had ordered to appoint from the University Assistant rank list on a temporary basis. The Governor’s stance is that it is appropriate to appoint those who are included in the PSC rank list.
Recruitment for posts requiring technical knowledge including e-governance support staff can be done through Employment Exchange. Kerala Kaumudi had published a report about the ‘back door recruitment fair’ by the syndicate members for those in their favour. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ciza Thomas, had submitted a report to the Governor confirming the illegal appointments.
Therefore, the Governor can now take action without seeking an explanation from the Varsity. The legal advice given to the Governor is to declare the notification issued for the appointment as invalid. With this, all irregular appointments will be cancelled. The Governor will also block the move to appoint 100 more people.
