THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: About 60 police officers accused in serious criminal cases like rape, custody death, POCSO and corruption cases will be dismissed from service soon. The measures for this have been started at the Home Department, Police Headquarters and District Police Headquarters.

Home Secretary Dr. V. Venu handed over the draft order to Law Secretary V. Hari Nair to close any loopholes in the dismissal order. This is to prevent the culprits from approaching the court citing procedural lapses and escaping.

Those up to the SI rank can be dismissed by the state police chief and the district police chiefs. The Home Department should issue an order against those officers above that. The order will also assess the crimes, court proceedings and departmental proceedings faced by each one. The DGP had recommended to the Home Department that those accused in serious criminal cases could be dismissed for contempt of the force even if they were not convicted. The Chief Minister's directive is to immediately dismiss those who repeat serious crimes. Following this, the police chief handed over the district-wise list of criminals in the police to the home secretary.

Dismiss the accused involved in serious criminal and corruption cases and those who have been remanded or sentenced or sentenced. Kozhikode Coastal Police CI.P.R. Sunu, who is accused in six cases including rape, is also on the list.
