THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cleaning of drinking water kiosks set up by the Municipal Corporation as part of the Smart City project to provide purified drinking water have started. The action was taken after Kerala Kaumudi reported that the kiosks at Putharikandam Maidan, Thakaraparamba and Palayam were not cleaned and were covered with dust and dirt. The cleaning of the kiosks is the responsibility of the contractors who are in charge of the Smart City contract. But complaints were raised that their work is not fully completed.
After Kerala Kaumudi news, the Smart City officials informed that every day the contractors clean the kiosks early in the morning. Rs 2.2-crore project was pitched as a way to address the rising cost of bottled water and the scarcity of clean water. With the launch of international film festivals, kiosks have become increasingly important. The problem is that many people do not follow the instruction not to use the kiosk basin for washing hands and dishes. Officials said that the next issue is to supply water to the kiosks at Thampanoor Bus Shelter, Bakery Junction, Vazhuthacaud, University College, Thakaraparambu, SMV, Palayam Book Stall, Opposite Museum, General Hospital, Corporation Office and Chala Market.
