NEW DELHI: Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has responded to Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju's remark that the apex court should not take up bail pleas. Chief Justice Chandrachud also said that no case is trivial for the Supreme Court.
"No case is trivial for the Supreme Court. If we cannot intervene for personal freedom, then what is our job? We will be violating Article 136 of the Constitution if we do not intervene in the cases," Justice Chandrachud said.
The other day, Kiren Rijiju said in Parliament that the Supreme Court should not consider bail pleas or frivolous public interest petitions as there are a large number of pending cases. Chandrachud was replying to this.
