KASARGOD: The Congress and the families of the victims strongly protested against advocate C K Sreedharan for taking up the vakalath of CPM activists and accused in the Periya twin cases, soon after leaving the party. Sreedharan took over the vakalath to appear for the nine accused in the trial of the case to be held on February 2 at the CBI court in Kochi.

DCC president P K Faizal said will file a complaint with the bar council against Sreedharan, who violated the rules of legal profession, for appearing for them. He has done an act that brings disrepute to the legal profession. He said that it is illegal to appear in the CBI court for the accused after obtaining the case files from the family and taking possession of the documents. Faisal alleged that Sreedharan dissuaded the Congress leaders from submitting a plea saying that a CBI probe was not possible.

The Congress leadership stated that they will launch a political campaign against Sreedharan Former KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran had also come forward against Sreedharan yesterday.

Meantime, Sreedharan said that he took over the vakalath after being approached by the family of the accused. The CPM leadership had not directed this. I have not yet examined the file of the Periya case, he said.

The victims Sarath Lal and Kripesh’s fathers Satyanarayan and Krishnan and sister Amrita said the action of Sreedharan, who conspired from the initial stage of the case, as heinous. The crime branch remand report mentioned that the accused had received legal advice after the murder. Will file a complaint in the CBI court demanding a probe on his role in the conspiracy.

Relatives alleged that it was inhumane to take the file of the case from the family of the victims through messengers within two months of the murder.
