THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police will oppose giving khaki uniforms to drivers and conductors in KSRTC again.
KSRTC has decided to return to khaki uniform while the government is considering the recommendation of the police chief that the employees of other departments should stop wearing khaki uniform similar to that of the police.
According to the Police Act, khaki uniform should not be worn by anyone other than police officers for official purposes. The police chief had recommended that the fire force, jail department and forest department should be given different uniforms and the uniforms of motor vehicle and excise officers should be revised as they are not part of the law-and-order charge. The government has taken this seriously. The forest department is considering revising the uniform colour. That's when KSRTC, who left khaki and choose blue, is about to wear khaki again. The decision was taken in a discussion held by the management with the representatives of the recognized trade unions on Friday.
Union representatives complained that blue uniforms get dirty quickly when they work all day in a single-duty system. The same employees have different opinion on this.
It has been decided to provide uniform cloth order to corporation. It has not been decided when the change will begin. Blue uniform will continue for mechanical staff. The khaki was changed and blue uniform was implemented in 2016.
