THRISSUR: It is alleged that the temporary charge of VC in the Agriculture university was given to Dr. K. Arya, head of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics in College of Agriculture, Vellayani by neglecting a professor belonging to the SC category, who was the most senior and was the faculty dean for 5.5 years. Dr. A Anil Kumar, Head of Agriculture Extension in Vellayani College Anil Kumar was denied the post although he deserved it. Anil Kumar is senior than Arya.

Agriculture Minister's office issued an order giving Arya the charge for ten days after VC Ishita Roy was on leave. Anil Kumar, who is only seven months away from retirement, has experience working in the university's general council, sub-committees and board of studies, but none of that was considered.

It is reported that there were six backward class candidates including Anil Kumar in the list of ten persons prepared for temporary appointment. Meanwhile, those in favor of Arya's appointment say that the provision states to give temporary charge to any senior professor.

The University Teachers' Organization has earlier filed a petition in the High Court questioning Ishita Roy’s appointment. The organization will also point out the violation of rules in the new temporary appointment when the court considers this. According to the University rules, the order regarding temporary charge is to be issued by the Chancellor, who is the Governor. The order from the office of the Minister of Agriculture can also be questioned in court.
