THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The delay in promotions in the Irrigation department are adversely affecting the daily activities and also denying opportunities of people in entry cadres. The reason for delay is the seniority issue. In case of seniority dispute in other departments, it is resolved by granting temporary promotion subject to review to court order. Those concerned are not ready for such action. 326 posts remain vacant. Due to this attitude, many employees had to retire without getting promotion.
Many people in the entry cadre will be employed if the promotion order comes out. About 200 people will be appointed from the LDC rank list of 2021.
5 Chief Engineers who take important decisions have been replaced by two. Chief Engineer of Administration Section, who is also the Head of Irrigation Department, Project (2) Section Chief Engineer in charge of Dams from Thiruvananthapuram to Chalakudy, and Chief Engineer, Design Section are the main vacant posts.
The service organizations are on an indefinite strike in front of the Chief Engineer's office since November 28 demanding timely promotion.
