buffer-zone

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the buffer zone issue is getting complicated day by day and the opposition and the Christian churches have decided to protest, a high-level meeting called by the chief minister will be held at 3.30 pm today to resolve the issue. The meeting will be held at the chief minister's chamber.

The government is planning to inform the Supreme Court that the direct inspection report will be submitted later along with the satellite survey report. The meeting is based on the stand that the protest started by the Christian churches on the issue of buffer zone should not pave the way for political exploitation. The chief minister had yesterday stated that the satellite survey was not effective. The stand to be taken in the Supreme Court will be discussed with the AG and the Standing Consul. The issue of seeking extension to submit the satellite survey report is also under consideration.

With the publication of the satellite survey report, the LDF has demanded immediate measures to stop the protests against the government. Both the government and the LDF don’t want the buffer zone issue to be extended like the Vizhinjam strike. The CPM also feels that prolonging the issue will pave the way for a major political upheaval in the Left Front itself. Jose K Mani had publicly expressed his concern about the buffer zone. The participation of CPM leaders in local protests related to the buffer zone is also a headache for the party. Local leaders of CPM participated in the rally held in Koorachundu.
