During the Mandala – Makaravillaku in Sabarimala, the most number of complaints from devotees is about long waiting time in the queue to get darshan. As the number of devotees rise, the waiting time will also increase. The difficult situation of devotees waiting for ten and twelve hours is something we can imagine. There will be children and elderly in these long queues.
After the High Court observed the difficulty of devotees at Sabarimala, the court instructed some arrangements, which resulted in positive results in the last two days. On Monday, the 91,000 devotees who came for darshan did not have to wait for more than two or three hours.
This is due to the rearrangement of the queue system. The authorities were able to provide facilities for darshan for about eighty devotees in a minute. It is appreciated that separate and good darshan is provided for children, elderly, and differently abled people without being in the rush. This could have been done without the intervention on the court.
Providing separate queue for children, women, and the elderly is seen in many religious places like Sabarimala. In Tirupati, where daily tens of thousands of devotees reach each day, the darshan is very smooth and without any rush. This scientific approach could have been arranged at Sabarimala too. For that experts must be given the responsibility.
With virtual queue system, the number of devotees reaching daily can be reduced. Devotees reaching on scheduled time can be provided facilities to get darshan without any hazels. If the lines continue to move without any blocks and controlled by security forces, there won’t be much complaints. If devotees are provided facilities for rest and given light food too, then things will be smoother. If the queue is controlled form Pamba itself, then the uncontrolled rush at Sabarimala can be brought under control.
Similar changes must be brought to the transport facilities to Sabarimala. Current parking facilities are inadequate. When ten thousand vehicles reach there the traffic block it creates results in wastage of time. New parking spaces must be developed urgently. If the parking spaces are levelled, more vehicles can be parked. A good portion of the present parking area is not usable. Authorities, who stand confused in front of problems that are easy to solve, is the reason for most of the difficulties faced by devotees.
