KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday said that most of the VCs who filed a petition against the show cause notice issued by the Governor, who is also the Chancellor, were victims of the circumstances. Justice Devan Ramachandran, who said that there are no complaints about the qualifications of the VCs, added verbally said that there is no allegation of irregularity against the VCs. The hearing will continue today on the petitions filed by various university VCs against the show cause notice.

The hearing of the VCs of Kannur, Calicut, CUSAT, Malayalam University and the VC of Sree Narayanaguru Open University was completed yesterday.

The VCs said that there are procedures to sack the VCs. The VCs argued that they cannot be sacked without complying with these procedures and the Chancellor cannot simply issue a show cause notice. The petitioners also stated that they have good academic merit. There is an interim order that no final decision shall be made on the notice until the petitions are disposed of. Ten university VCs of the state filed a petition against the Governor's show cause notice.
