THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM state committee meeting which started yesterday has suggested careful interventions right from the booth levels to strengthen the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. As part of bringing the achievements of the government to the people, home visits will be done from January 1st to 21, with participation from ministers and PB members. Pamphlets will also be distributed.
Secretary MV Govindan said in the report presented that there should be accurate counting of voters at booth level.
"State committee members should lead the activities in their respective constituencies. People's involvement should be strengthened. There should be contact with all sections of the society. When there are protests due to local problems, we should intervene at the right time and try to solve them."
The CPM is gearing up for the 2024 elections as the Left's most promising state. Last time the party was able to win only in Alappuzha out of 20 seats. When the Kerala Congress-M joined the Left Front, their MP from Kottayam also became part of the front. The remaining eighteen MPs belong to the UDF. This time, the CPM wants to increase the left representation in the Parliament by winning at least half the seats.
The state committee meeting, which continues today, will discuss trade union and cultural policy documents.
Buffer zone issue
CPM will conduct campaigns pointing out that the order during UDF government's reign lead to the buffer zone issue. The UDF will be exposed if the they do not back down from its move to capitalize on the apprehensions of the hill people. The state committee has assessed that the UDF has a double standard on the issue. The state committee appreciated the government's intervention to end the Vizhinjam strike. The government has been directed to take immediate action to speed up the rehabilitation of the fishermen staying in godowns etc.
