march

MUMBAI: Raising the issue of skewed male-female ratio, eligible bachelors staged a march to the collector's office in Solapur district of Maharashtra. The 'bridegroom morcha' was organized by Jyoti Kranti Parishad.

After the march, they submitted a petition to the district collector's office demanding that the Prenatal Diagnostic Tests (PCPNDT) Act be tightened. In the petition, they added that the government should find brides for those who participated in the procession.

Several bachelors in wedding attire on horseback was accompanied by band music. “People may mock this morcha, but the grim reality is that youth of marriageable age are not getting brides just because the male-female ratio is skewed in the state,” said Ramesh Baraskar, founder of Jyoti Kranti Parishad.

The male-female ratio in Maharashtra is 1000-889. "This is due to female foeticide. The government is responsible for this", Baraskar added.
