KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has expressed anger over negligence in the removal of festoons and billboards erected on the roadside. The court reacted sharply while considering the complaint on the accident in Thrissur where a woman lawyer sustained injuries after the plastic string of a festoon got entangled in her neck while she was riding a scooter.
The court also expressed displeasure over the non-removal of the cutouts of the stars and festoons erected in connection with the FIFA World Cup. "Illegal festoons and banners are erected by those travelling in cars and they have no problem with it. However, it is the common people who suffer because of these festoons and banners," the court observed. The court also asked whether the authorities are waiting for death to occur without removing them.
Meanwhile, the court pointed out that the incident in which the lawyer had an accident was terrible and directed the Thrissur municipal secretary to appear in person tomorrow.
