VIZHINJAM: An 80-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her husband during a family dispute.Thiruvallam native Jagadamma is the deceased. Thiruvallam police arrested her husband Balanandan (84) in the incident. Daughter Soumya (38), who came to stop him, got injured in her leg. The incident happened around 2.45 pm yesterday.

Jagadamma came outside the house while Balanandan was beating her during quarrel. The accused followed and stabbed her including in the stomach. The relatives said that Soumya was injured while she tried to stop this. Neighbours said that Jagadamma could not be taken to the hospital soon as the accused tried to attack the youths who came running on hearing their screams. Then the accused was detained by the youth and informed the police. Jagadamma is the second wife of the accused. They have no children. Soumya is the daughter of his first wife. She is suffering from cancer. After the incident, Soumya was admitted to the hospital. Jagadamma was stabbed in the thigh, stomach, back and neck. The police said that the cause of death is suspected to be two stab wounds to the stomach.

During the fight, the accused broke the glasses on the first floor of the house. It is reported that the visuals of the murder were caught on the CCTV of the house. Thiruvallam SI Sathish said that the footage will be collected after Soumya, who is undergoing treatment, reaches home. The police recovered the steel knife used by the accused. Forensic department and fingerprint experts reached the spot and collected the evidence. Sivankutty, Latha Kumari and Jayachandran are the other children. Body is in Medical College mortuary. The body will be handed over to the relatives today after post-mortem.
