THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vigilance raids under 'Operation Subiksha' at ration shops have uncovered major irregularities. The surprise raids were carried after complaint of reselling free food grains was made. The raids were conducted in sixty-four ration shops.

It was found that the rations that the card owners did not buy were included in the bill and sold at higher price. In some shops the consumers are not given the amount that is shown in the bills. There are irregularities in the stock also.

Materials are sold to migrant workers who do not have ration cards at a higher rate. In a ration shop at Prashant Nagar in Thiruvananthapuram a migrant worker was sold rice at a high price was caught red handed.

At Nedungunath, Vigilance confiscated four sacks of rice that was being smuggled out in an auto. At Arppukara, a man without a ration card was given rice at Rs.20 per kilo. A ration shop at Varkala, there was 117 kg of pachari and 7 kg of atta in extra amount. At Karukachal, Kozhuvanal, and Elamkulam in Kottayam items that were not sold were included in the bill.

At Thiruvananthapuram Punamootil, when Vigilance officials weighed 6 kg rice given to a card owner, it was found the amount was less by 900 gm. And 800 gm was less in 5kg wheat given to the card owner.
