KOCHI: The Consumerfed has decided to destroy cakes worth Rs 5 lakh at a time when the Christmas market is full of cakes. The cakes, stacked in the warehouse for a year, will be destroyed. The reason is that it cannot be sold in shops. The company which took the tender has refused to take it back. This caused the cakes to stack. Consumerfed from the lesson taken stopped the usual practice of buying cakes together by inviting tenders. They directed centres to purchase as per their requirement.
Consumerfed had awarded the Thodupuzha-based company the contract for a large quantity of cakes last year. However, it was criticized for not being a famous brand.
